VIA
Activities
The
Association has also given impetus to organizing several program's
like free health camps, eye camps etc. for the benefit of the
villagers. Some of the member industries, on individual capacity,
have adopted some backward villages for development and provided
schools, dispensaries and many other amenities.
Pollution
Control: A commendable contribution of VIA is its crusade
against pollution of environment. Though Vapi is a Chemical Estate
with several pollution prone industries, VIA has succeeded in
keeping the pollution under check by a series of measures initiated
by it including a Common Effluent Treatment Plant. The industries
are kept under surveillance round-the-clock and the effluent samples
are drawn and tested on a regular basis to measure the pollution
load. Those found flouting the norms are subjected to severe penalty
including curtailment of production till they fall within the
permissible range.
The
Common Effluent Treatment Plant (C.E.T.P) of 55 MLD capacity which
was constructed by GIDC at a cost of Rs.20 crores (which is borne by
the industries) based on the feasibility study conducted by NEERI
and design of Kirloskar Consultants was handed over to the
Association for commissioning and operation in January, 1997. The
Plant was inturn assigned to a Canadian Consultant engaged by the
Association namely M/s. Anderson Operations Inc. who have
commissioned the plant on 17th January 1997.
Another
major project in hand is the Solid Waste Management Project for
which one lakh sq. mtrs. land has already has been acquired for
GIDC. A competent agency has been appointed to design, construct and
operate the Project based on most advanced technology available
across the globe.
